LA County · Concrete pier + Santa Monica Bay sand
Hermosa Beach Pier
Sister pier to Manhattan Beach, half a mile south. Same Bay water, same productive halibut sand, marginally less crowded. Mackerel + jacksmelt off the end, perch + croaker on the sides, halibut spring through summer. The pier is a few hundred yards south of Manhattan Beach Pier so conditions track each other closely.
Target species
California halibut
Spring through summer. Live mackerel off the pier is the killer. 22-inch minimum, 5/day south of Pt Sur. Mid-flood through slack high.
Pacific mackerel + bonito + jacksmelt
Off the end. Sabikis for the small bait, surface iron for bonito. Mackerel bait the killer for bigger fish.
Barred surf perch + yellowfin + spotfin croaker
Sand sides year-round. Sand crabs + mole crabs on Carolina rig. Croaker 10/day combined.
Leopard shark + bat ray (after dark)
Big bait fished on bottom off the pier end. Leopard 36-inch minimum, 3/day. Bat rays released.

Crowd note
Less heavily-trafficked than Manhattan Beach Pier. Weekday mornings and after-dark are quiet. Weekend midday gets busy but not shoulder-to-shoulder.
